One of the obvious challenges of travelling with a couple of small kids is that some of the fun activities aren’t always possible with the little ones about. Our plan to work around this is to take turns with the kids from time to time to free up the other, and also where possible just to adapt the activity so that the kiddies can join in.
Today was a great example of the latter. We found a bike rental place that also had ‘tag alongs’ (Thanks Paul S from ‘Journey Magazine’ for the inspiration on that one!) and spent a sunny day cruising around the San Francisco Bay with the kids in tow.
Highlights included seeing some playful seals at Torpedo wharf, some dolphins swimming under the Golden Gate Bridge, meeting up with Kiley at Sausalito for some crepes on a lovely little beach there before all heading up to hippie hideout at Mills Valley for well earned beverages. We returned bikes and all on the late afternoon ferry from Sausalito and grabbed some pretty amazing Vietnamese food for dinner back at the hotel to feed a lot of hungry and tired mouths.
The kids had a complete blast – the only little challengs was the odd grizzle about who would go on who’s bike and who would go in the lead. Nothing a bit of ice cream bribery couldn’t resolve!
Guess which city we’re in
